Shapes in the Sand
Within the vignettes of their universe, people in the Cosmic Age struggle to find meaning and purpose in a time when all of the assumptions of the old world feel both increasingly trivial and uncomfortably failiar to the new one. Some are motivated by survival, with the crises of interstellar conflict magnifying the horrors of war. Some are motivated by greed, with the prospects of fame and fortune blossoming with the endless resources and space of the galaxy at large. Some still are simply motivated by what lies in front of them, with the needs and stresses of human life keeping them grounded, even if the only ground they stand on are hunks of metal or unearthly soil that spin around alien suns.

The galaxy, the nations, the human race. Their fears, their problems, the various structures they inhabit, the little lives they live. Across the vast reaches of space, people dream and live as they always have, all unknowingly changing the course of the future in their own little ways. While the waves of the universe ebb and flow and the sands of time and space sift, these little lives go on, pushing existence forward along with them. These are the stories of the people who look up at the stars and see not ancient stories from their past, but tangible reminders of their own present.
